Blacksburg – and the New River Valley as a whole – is a wonderful place to live, yet it’s not uncommon to hear people say “there’s nothing to do here.” I know I’ve said it. For years, it seems there’s been a drain of talent as folks graduated and, rather than staying in the area and plying their trade, they’ve left for other pastures. I know several folks who work in small businesses and, since they telecommute from anywhere, left Blacksburg for places like Idaho, and Colorado, and Italy.
We’re nearly halfway through the year, and I’m trying to make sense of the numbers.
If you’ve ever been looking for a home, or even contemplating buying a home, you’ve probably used an online home loan calculator (there’s a good one right on this page, in fact, labeled “Estimate Your Payment”) at some point. Mortgage payments are typically made up of four components: rincipal, Interest, Taxes, and Insurance … PITI. I say typically because some borrowers choose to pay their Taxes and Insurance separately, but that’s another blog post for another day.
