This morning, I posted on Twitter that I was at a closing …
A friend in Roanoke, Marty Martin, responded by saying that these were happening less and less these days:
On the surface, it’d be safe to assume that he was right – there have probably been fewer real estate transactions done YTD in 2010 than during the same time period in 2009 here in the New River Valley. To be sure I checked the New River Valley Multiple Listing Service, and here’s what I found. According to the NRVMLS:
Jan 1 – June 10 2009, there were 319 residential real estate transactions in the 24060, 24073 and 24141 area codes (this would include Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Radford, Riner, Fairlawn, and parts of Montgomery County).
Jan 1 – June 10 2010, there were 326 residential real estate transactions in the 24060, 24073 and 24141 area codes.
Is there a big difference between 319 transactions and 326 transactions? Nope, not at all. But I think it shows that, in real estate as in many other things, perception isn’t always reality.
Thanks, Marty, for the push. Your tweet gave me reason to pause …
